A CARE home has been forced into lockdown after workers tested positive for Covid-19 for a second time.
Anisha Grange Care Home, Outwood Common Road, Billericay is now closed to visitors following the cases of the virus.
A letter seen by the Echo says the staff were not tested for 90 days as they had tested positive previously, as per the Government guidelines.
Now angry families have hit out at the care home for stopping visits.
One relative who asked to remain anonymous said: “I am a family member who has had visits stopped and I am devastated.
“I was under the impression that it was really hard to catch Covid twice, so for two care home staff to catch it again, at the same time, is surely very, very worrying.
“To be able to just have visits there, in our grasp, and then for them to be stopped is beyond heartbreaking – we won’t be the only family impacted.”
Care home bosses say every precaution is being taken and they hope they can safely welcome back families soon.
A spokesperson said: “Nevertheless, we are treating the situation seriously and we are working with the council to coordinate our response.
“Whole home testing carried out last week returned no other positive results amongst team members or residents.
“We have taken all possible precautions and the two colleagues who tested positive were immediately isolated, although they are experiencing no symptoms.
“All residents have had their vaccinations and we are confident the home has maintained the highest standards of infection control.”
The care home bosses said it’s been closed to visitors due to caution.
An Essex County Council spokesperson said: “Two staff members have tested positive for Covid-19 and the home is now following a well-established process of closing to visitors to control further transmission.
“We have, and will continue, to support the home, residents and families and will be taking necessary precautions to protect those that remain in the home. The safety and wellbeing of all residents remains our absolute priority.”
