A shop worker was threatened during a store robbery, police have confirmed.

Co-Operative, Nevendon Road, Wickford was targeted at about 6.30pm last night.

The man demanded the shop worker opened the till and police say the suspected stole an unknown about of money during the incident.

Police also say the man was seen with a knife.

He's been described as white, about 6ft tall, ages in his 20s to 30s, with blond hair. He wore a black Adidas tracksuit and trainers.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are investigating a robbery at a Wickford shop.

"A man threatened a member of staff at The Co-Operative in Nevendon Road at 6.30pm on Tuesday 27 April and demanded he open the till.

"The suspect stole an unknown quantity of money.

"He was described as white, about 6ft tall, ages in his 20s to 30s, with blond hair. He wore a black Adidas tracksuit and trainers.

"The victim was left shaken but unhurt.

"Detectives are continuing their enquiries and anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or has any information, is asked to contact Basildon CID quoting reference 42/78455/21."
