A FIFTH teenager has been arrested for murder following the fatal stabbing of a man.

Essex Police are continuing to investigate the killing in Iris Mews, Laindon on Sunday at 9.30pm.

The man, aged in his 30s, was found with stab wounds. Despite medics’ efforts, he sadly died.

The police say his death has left a family "broken apart" and are working tirelessly to establish what happened.

A post mortem examination will be carried out today.

Four teenagers were arrested on Sunday, and overnight on Monday, police made a further arrest.

All five suspects remain in custody.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Our detectives have been working tirelessly and through the night to establish what happened in the moments leading up to the murder and the attack itself.

"There will also be a continued police presence in the area today and into the coming days and we would encourage anyone who wants to speak to our officers to do so – they are here to help."

Det Chief Spt Steve Jennings, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “Our enquiries have led us to believe the victim was going to the aid of another man and, as a result, he lost his life during an altercation which ensued with a group of young people not directly known to him.

“We are really keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen or heard anything happen in Iris Mews shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who has seen any discarded weapons in the area.

“If anyone knows anything about this murder and has not yet come forward to speak to us, please do. A family has been broken apart, and we need to get to the bottom of what happened.”

Residents in the estate said they don't feel safe anymore.
