A high-speed crash saw a driver hit a series of garden walls and flip onto its roof - writing off a parked car in the process.

Witnesses reported hearing the car speeding along Lifstan Way, Southend, before the crash, which left passengers “crawling” out of the wreckage.

A female passenger was hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries following the crash.

A witness, who asked not to be named, couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the damage.

She said: “It was shocking.

“I sent my husband out and we could see someone crawling out of the car. One of the passengers was shrieking.

“An eye witness said they were going at a really high speed and I could hear they were going fast.

“It was really shocking what happened. Both our cars are damaged and my husbands car was written off.

“Our wall was damaged and so were our neighbours’ either side.”

She said: “Lots of our neighbours have said that they have had damage to their property because of car crashes down here.

“It seems like people use this as a come through road.

“We’ve not long moved to the area and it’s the what if’s and the damage that could happen if people continue to speed.

“We need some speed control measures whether it’s a speed camera of speed humps.”

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “A silver Mondeo had collided with a garden wall and a woman was trapped inside.

“She was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She is now in a stable condition.

“Two other women were surrounding the car, and it was reported that a man had left the scene on foot.

“A 45-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision, taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

“He has since been released under investigation.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 101 and quote the crash reference number 1048573.”
