OFF-DUTY medics came to the aid of a young teenage boy who had been stabbed in the street.
Leigh resident Dawn Allen has shared the terrifying moment she, along with an off-duty nurse and doctor, rushed to the aid of the teenager who was attacked in The Broadway.
The teenager was stabbed at around 8.50pm on Thursday.
Ms Allen, 50, was having drinks in the Mariners Court pub when she heard someone had been attacked.
She said: “There was another lady in the pub who was a nurse, we both ran out there together.
“The boy had collapsed and slid down the wall and was on his back, I saw the blood.
“Another woman who was walking past was a doctor, she had a bag on her and had got her blood pressure kit.
“She was holding the wound and taking the blood pressure at the same time.
“I was holding his legs up, she was talking to him, and the nurse was taking his blood pressure.”
Multiple people at the scene called the police, while Ms Allen said the boy’s friends were milling around and that “emotions were high”.
Up to six police cars and ambulances attended the scene.
Ms Allen, a mum-of-two who runs her own travel franchise, said: “I think the police were fantastic, they handled the situation brilliantly.
“It was about five to ten minutes all this happened for, but at the time it felt like it was an hour. It was just crazy.
“All we were worried about was that poor boy, he came in and out of consciousness and he was sick.”
The victim was rushed to hospital but thankfully his injuries were not life-threatening or changing.
Michelle Davies, of Essex Police’s South Command team, said: “We would like to thank the members of the public who valiantly stepped in to provide urgent medical assistance and those who have already helped officers with our enquiries.
“Your support really does make a difference.
