LEIGH residents have been left scared to leave their homes following a teenage boy being stabbed in the street.

Those living near The Broadway in Leigh have described how a huge cordon was put in place following the attack on Thursday night.

One residents claims to have seen a friend of the victim left in shock, with another claims a large group of people were running away from the scene.

Up to six police cars along with ambulances were within the cordon, which stretched back from outside Mariners Court up Leighton Avenue and Redcliff Drive.

The teenage boy was rushed to hospital, but his injuries are not life-changing.

Three women, including two off-duty medics, came to his aid in the street.

Lyn Cast, 78, of Grand Drive, saw the aftermath of the stabbing.

She said: “I went down to see what was going on as I have got one or two friends along there.

“I spoke to the police, and they said someone had been stabbed, a young boy.

“I just wanted to make sure my friends were safe.

“I took photographs and saw a young boy who was his friend, and he was crying and very upset.

“The police were still there at 2am.

“It’s very frightening for all of us, I am scared to go out now.”

Joe West, 37, of Leighton Avenue, said police were directing people away.

He said: “We got back home at about 11pm and the road was blocked off, we spoke to the police and they said someone had been stabbed.

“It’s the first time we’ve seen something, it’s not really a rough area by all accounts, we’ve moved here from London.

“There were at least six police cars at 11pm. It was closed off halfway down.”

One 48-year-old woman of Ashleigh Drive, who did not wish to be named, said a group of teens had come running past her house.

She said: “My daughter said I needed to call the police. There were about ten teenagers, maybe aged 16-17 running down the road chasing a small boy about 12 years old.

“I was putting my other daughter to bed when she came into the room saying I needed to call the police.

“They were looking amped up, walking in the road and stopping the traffic.

“There was another guy trying to calm the others down, he looked 20 years old.

“We watched everything from the window, there was about 30 people in the road.

“It was very frightening; it seems to happen quite a lot.”

Three people have been arrested in connection to the stabbing.
