AN ARMED man from Canvey failed to appear in court after being found with a knife on the island.

Lee Eacersall was pulled over by police in Helmdale, Canvey on November 7 last year.

When police inspected his car, a lock knife measuring 25cm in length with a blade of 11cm was found inside the vehicle as police examined all contents of the vehicle.

Eacersall was arrested and interviewed by police and then released under investigation.

However, he failed to attend and a warrant was issued for his arrest by the court.

Police later tracked Eacersall down and arrested him, bringing him before the courts.

He appeared at Southend Magistrates Court on Friday having been reported for being in possession of an article which had a blade or was sharply pointed, namely a lock knife Contrary to section 139 and of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.

He admitted the offence and was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
