A GRIEVING mum has been left "livid" that former health secretary Matt Hancock failed to follow the Covid rules he set, as she shared the difficulty her and her family faced in the months leading up to her son's death.
Penny Bibby told Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, that the case into Matt Hancock's affair is "not closed" for her, as she revealed the heartbreak her family endured as they were unable to visit her son Ollie in hospital before he died.
Ollie Bibby died on May 5, at the age of 27, following a battle with leukaemia.
After sharing her grief with Sir Keir, the Labour leader asked the Prime Minister at Prime Minister Questions how he thought the case into Mr Hancock's affair was closed when millions of families, like Penny's, had endured such grief.
Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer asked the Prime Minister: "Millions of people made huge and very difficult sacrafices to follow the rules that his health secretary had introduced.
"Prime Minister take the case of Ollie Bibby. Ollie died of leukaemia on May 5.
"Ollie died, like so many people in this pandemic, with his family and friends unable to spend time with him.
"When he was in hospital, he begged to see his family. But following the rules, only one member of his family was allowed to see him.
"His mum said I'm livid. We did everything we were told to do. And the man who made the rules didn't. How can that be right "So I ask the Prime Minister how did he possibly think this matter was closed on Friday morning?"
In a criticised response, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "We all share the grief and the pain of Ollie and his family and millions of people up and down the country who have endured the who have endured the privations that this country has been through in order to get the coronavirus pandemic under control and that is why we had a change of health secretary the day after the story appeared.
"That is why what we're doing as a government, instead of focusing on stuff going on in the Westminster bubble, we are focusing on rolling out the vaccine at a rate to make sure that people like Ollie and his family do not have to suffer in the future.
Sir Keir hit back at Boris Johnson for his dismissive response to Ollie's case.
Sir Keir said: "I can hardly think that the Prime Minister thinks that in response to a question about Ollie, to suggest that this is the Westminster bubble.
"Before Prime Ministers Questions I spoke to Ollie's mum about the awful circumstances she and her family have been through.
"She told me PM that every day she watched the press conferences every day they were on and she hung onto every word the Prime Minister said so she would know what her and her family could and couldn't do. And then they followed the rules.
"This is not the Westminster bubble. She told me that for her and her family this case isn't closed. And she speaks for millions of people.
"I would ask the Prime Minister to withdraw that when he gets up. It's the wrong response to Ollie's case."
