Forecasters are predicting indifferent weather for Southend this weekend – with the threat of showers looming for the Euro final on Sunday.

Temperatures aren’t expected to reach higher than 20c in the town this weekend, and the Met Office’s current forecasters suggest there will only be a few hours of sunshine.

Football fans across the town will be gearing up for the Euros final on Sunday, with many hoping to watch the match on big screens in pub gardens.

Some pubs have told the Echo they were fully booked up for Sunday's game - even before England beat Denmark in Wednesday's semi-final.

The forecast suggests it should be dry for most of the match, but the rain could arrive around 10pm – when extra time and penalties could be taking place if needed.

Here’s the latest forecast for Southend over the weekend:

Saturday AM

It will be a wet start to the weekend, with showers forecast between 6am and 8am. Heavier and longer spells of rain are expected between 9am and midday, with a top temperature of 15c.

Saturday PM

The wet weather will stop around midday, and mean it will be a cloudy for much of the afternoon and evening.

There is the prospect of some late evening sunshine around 8pm, with a top temperature of 17c forecast.

Sunday AM

Sunshine and cloud is forecast for most of the morning, with the brightest spells expected between 7am and 10am.

Temperatures will reach 20c by midday.

Sunday PM

It will be a cloudy afternoon and evening, with temperatures lingering around 20c.

The chance of showers around 7pm – on hour before kick off – is 20 per cent but that will increase to 50 per cent by 10pm.

The final will finish around that time providing there is a winner in normal time, so it could be a damp end to the night – let’s just hope that isn’t an omen…
