BOSSES at one of Southend’s top attractions have announced they will send staff home early on Sunday so they can watch the Euros final.

Adventure Island has brought forward its closing time on Sunday as it clashes with England’s match against Italy.

The attraction typically closes between 8pm and 10.30pm on Sundays.

Making the announcement, Adventure Island said on Twitter: “Attention!

“We will be closing at 7PM on Sunday, July 11, so that all staff as well as our customers can enjoy the final.

“IT'S COMING HOME.”

The decision comes as companies up and down the country have come under increasing pressure to show ‘flexibility’ with employees on Monday.

The TUC said millions of workers will be watching England play Italy on Sunday evening, the biggest game for the national team since England won the World Cup in 1966.

General secretary Frances O’Grady said the game promises to be a “historic moment“ for the country.

“We all hope the final against Italy is a cause for celebration,” she said.

“Bosses should talk to their staff about flexible working arrangements ahead of Monday morning – perhaps allowing them to start later and claim back their time afterwards.

“And bosses should show flexibility too towards the 2.2 million workers who work on a Sunday – many of them key workers.

“Many of them will want to watch the match, and they should be able to, either at work or by finishing early and making up the time.”

Thousands of people in south Essex have meanwhile signed a petition calling for Monday to be made a Bank Holiday if England are victorious in Sunday’s final.

The Government has not commented officially on the idea, but a spokesman for the Prime Minister has echoed calls for businesses to offer workers flexible working hours on Monday – regardless of the result.

He added: “We would want businesses who feel able to consider it if they can.”
