LEIGH-on-Sea’s boutique bars, sandy shorelines and cockle sheds have helped propel the town into the prestigious ranking of the second best place to live in Essex.

Lifestyle platform, Muddy Stilettos, has listed the town as the second top area in the county for its ‘Eight best places to live in Essex’ feature.

The website states that the area combines a buzzy cafe culture with Old Town charm, and says it is one of the county’s hippest property hotspots.

“What are the big draws of Leigh are the Old Town which is steeped in history with lots of cockle boats and fishing boats.”

Vanessa Townshend, 47, owner of Vanessa Shoes in Leigh Broadway also said she loves living in the town.

She said she’s not surprised to hear it’s been voted as the second top place to live in Essex.

She said: “It’s a bustley town and we’ve got the seafront and it’s one of the nicer parts of it. There are also lots of bars and places to eat and there are more restaurants coming in the Broadway too so it’s always evolving.

“I think the grants for businesses in the Covid pandemic have helped firms to keep changing things up and what they do.”

The other Essex areas to make it to the top eight include Burnham-on-Crouch, Frinton-on-Sea, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Manningtree and Wivenhoe.
