A NEW bollard system will be installed to boost security for vehicle access points on Southend High Street.
Works to replace the old bollard system carried out by Eurovia started yesterday and set to be completed in November this year.
Southend Council said it will look to keep disturbance to businesses to a minimum, with pedestrian access to shop fronts being maintained throughout the works.
The bollards are set to be controlled by the council’s CCTV team, operating 24/7.

The access points being improved include entrances from London Road, Queensway, Southchurch Road, Warrior Square The Royals Shopping Centre and others.
Martin Terry, councillor responsible for public protection, said: “Public safety is of paramount importance and it is key that we renew the current bollards at the entrances to our High Street. The current bollard system is in disrepair and no longer fit for purpose, so installing the new and improved system will improve security and allow us to better manage vehicle access for this high footfall area.
"With new CCTV set to be installed in and around our High Street, our council officers will be able to see and control the bollards, ensuring that the new safety measures will not affect the local businesses who require high street vehicle access."
