A THUG has been convicted of his role in a brawl that saw a man dislocate his arm.

Timothy French was one of three men involved in an incident at a Sainsbury’s store in Southchurch Road, Southend.

The 31-year-old of Cambridge Gardens, Rochford went to the store shortly before 10.30pm on March 3, 2017, along with two others.

Basildon Crown Court heard that the group of three men had stolen cans of Stella, before a fight broke out resulting in the injuries to the victim.

French denied one count of causing grievous bodily harm.

However, he was this week convicted by a jury, and is set to be sentenced on August 13.

In a statement read to the court during the trial, PC Darren Hagan told how he and a colleague had gone to the store.

He said: “We were allocated to a disturbance at the Sainsbury’s Local store on Southchurch Road, Southend.

“We walked up to the store and the large automatic door was locked, I spoke to a male who was a staff member of the store.

“He unlocked the door and pointed up the road and said ‘they went that way’.

“I also saw a male in a dark blue suit.

“He was holding his left shoulder and rubbing it, looking in pain.

“I asked if he needed an ambulance and he confirmed he wanted to see a paramedic.”

PC Hagan said he and his colleague were told by members of the public the three men had headed to Southend East Train Station, and they drove down there and spotted them near a bench on the platform.

They arrested one man who identified himself as “Liam”.

He continued: “We walked ‘Liam’ to the police vehicle and asked if he had anything that would hurt me, and he said ‘yeah an Uzi, a machine gun and shotgun’.

“We searched him and placed him in the vehicle.”

PC Hagan said he returned to the Sainsbury’s store where the man in the suit was being treated by paramedics.

He added: “I was told the man had a dislocated left shoulder, a swollen right cheek bone and cut above his left eye.”

“I was informed the three males had stolen cans of Stella.”
