AN 'eco market' has been steadily growing in Southend's Short Street, since its birth back in May.

Twice a month - on the first and third Sunday - the traders set up their stalls at Victoria Business Park outside some of the units there, namely the Yoga Factory and the downstairs cafe Chai, which are both behind the aptly named Short Street Eco-Market.

It consists of planet-conscious makers, creatives and local entrepreneurs selling goods such as fresh bread, home-made plant based treats, arts and crafts, locally grown organic produce, hair and body products, jewellery, vintage clothing, florists and second hand vinyl.

The market opens at 10am until 3pm, with different live music taking place at noon. On Sunday August 1, the music will come from Jaws and the Midnight Flyer.

Josh Lipscombe, owner of The Yoga Factory and co-creator of the Short St Eco-Market, said: “Over the past year we’ve encountered so many like-minded people within our community who are striving to live more consciously and have a real passion for environmentally-friendly lifestyles.

"After such a long period of intermittent isolation we are determined to bring people together.

"There are so many talented people in the area all striving for the same goal, so we thought an eco-market would be the perfect way to share and support our local businesses.”

He added: "Come and support our local creative community in their pursuit of eco-friendly, planet conscious, ethical business. Goods are locally grown, locally sourced and made with love."
