A TRAIL of blood was left on a pathway after a man was attacked, leaving him with injuries to his face, head and body.

A cordon was put in place throughout the night and a police probe has been launched after the attack at roughly 7.50pm on Tuesday.

It is unclear how he suffered the injuries at this stage, but police believe he was the victim of an assault.

The attack happened on a pathway between The Range store and Wickford Avenue, near Rectory Park Drive.

A blood stain could be seen on the pavement, with residents in the area reporting the victim “looked like he had been beaten up”.

It is not known if any weapons were used in the assault.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are investigating after a man was found injured in a street in Pitsea on Tuesday night.

“We arrived and found a man had sustained injuries to his face, head and torso and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Residents in the area witnessed the aftermath of the incident, stating it appeared as though the man had been attacked.

One 65-year-old resident of Rectory Park Drive, who did not wish to be named, said: “It happened just around the corner, my husband told me to stay indoors.

“There was a police presence until lunchtime yesterday..

“My husband said he looked like he had been beaten up.

“It really was right on the doorstep.

“We had assumed the worst because of the police presence.”

The cordon remained in place into Wednesday morning as officers scoured the scene for evidence.
