A coastguard rescue was launched after concerns were raised for a persons welfare.

The Southend team were tasked to the mission at 10.30pm last night (August 23) by Essex Police.

Southend Coastguard along with the Canvey Costguard crew met with officers at Southend Pier, before requesting help from Southend RNLI.

A search along the shore and in the water around the pier was launched, with coastguard teams and Southend RNLI Hovercraft all banding together to help.

With the assistance from kindhearted members of the public, the person was located with the Southend Coastguard team in attendance.

Southend RNLI provided support from the water until Essex Police and the ambulance service arrived on scene.

A spokesman from Southend Coastguard, said: "We would like to wish the person a speedy recovery and thank all those in attendance for their assistance including Dover MRCC.

"Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the coastguard, you could save someone’s life."
