THE heartbroken family of teenager Luke Bellfield are demanding answers six months after he was fatally stabbed.

To date, no one has been charged with killing Luke, 18, who died on February 26 in Old Leigh.

A post mortem examination found the promising boxer, from Eastwood, died as a result of a stab wound to the heart.

The only person arrested on suspicion of murder, a 17-year-old boy, was released without charge on Tuesday due to “insufficient evidence”.

Now, in an interview with the Echo, Luke’s mum Rowena is demanding answers from Essex Police.

The 45-year-old said they don’t feel they have had enough support from officers.

She said: “We really feel like there needs to more investigating done.

“It feels like they’re just brushing it under the carpet.

“I just want justice for Luke and we want police to be able to prove who was responsible.

“I’m trying to cling onto the hope that we will get justice.

“I’m not holding out much hope though, the police need to do more.

“I don’t feel like we’ve had much support from them either.”

Mrs Bellfield has claimed that the family has only met leading detective Scott Egerton once since Luke lost his life.

Essex Police confirmed there was a lack of evidence to bring a murder charge, with officers still enquiring into other offences.

The victim was involved in a confrontation with three men on February 26, in which all four were carrying weapons and were known to each other.

Five other people were arrested in connection with the “extensive investigation.

Two men arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm remain on bail.

Two men and a woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender remain released under investigation.

A spokesman from Essex Police, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Bellfield’s family and we have kept them as up to date as possible throughout the investigation.

“A family liaison officer has also supported them throughout the investigation.

“This is a specially trained police officer, who provides a consistent single point of contact between the family and the investigation team.

“The role of senior investigating officers is to manage the overall investigation and while they endeavour to meet families as much as possible, one of the key roles of the family liaison officer is to update families on the progress of the investigation.

“We appreciate this is a very difficult time for Mr Bellfield’s family and will continue to support them and update them on the investigation, which remains ongoing.”

Following Luke’s murder, additional CCTV and a safety team were placed in Old Leigh.

A shrine for Luke was set up in Old Leigh, which featured notes and tributes from friends and family.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Egerton previously paid tribute.

He said: “This incident led to the tragic waste of a young life, and we are determined to do everything we can to prevent more people suffering from the devastating consequences of violence involving weapons.”
