A MAN accused of manslaughter was looking for a fight before punching a dad so hard it caused a fatal brain injury, a court heard.
Dennie Griffiths and Jade Chambers are standing trial over the death of Matthew Bion outside Reids bar in Billericay.
Father-of-two Mr Bion 31, from Wickford, died nine days after he was involved in an altercation outside the bar in Laindon Road at 1.15am on August 18. 2019.
Griffiths, 27, of Hermitage Drive, Laindon, denies one count of manslaughter, while Chambers, 24, also of Hermitage Drive, denies assisting an offender.
Yesterday the jury saw footage of a police interview with a woman who saw the incident and described Griffiths as “looking for a fight” prior to the incident.
She said: “My sister and I were watching him all night and there were two occasions when we wanted to get away from him and I thought it was all going to kick off.
“We felt like we were trying to escape them during the night.
“He was looking for a fight all night and it made sense when we found out it was him who hit the man.
“I saw him punch the man and when the hit the ground the noise was horrific. It was like he was just standing there when he was hit.
“When his head hit the pavement it was the worse crack and it echoed and I could see some blood.
“My sister helped and gave him CPR and put him in the recovery position and they couldn’t find his pulse at first, then they put a jacket under his head and on the wounds.”

The court previously heard how Griffiths was on a cocktail of alcohol and cocaine on the night of the attack and how it’s alleged his girlfriend, Chambers, helped to hide him while police were looking for him.
The jury were told on Monday how Mr Bion did not regain consciousness after the attack and was taken to Queens Hospital in Romford and put on life support measures.
Speaking to the jury on Monday prosecutor Cyrus Shroff said a post mortem found he died of severe traumatic brain injuries from the incident.
Mr Bion died on August 27.
The trial continues.
