A WOMAN has been hit by a car in Southend and has been rushed to hospital with a head injury.
Essex Police has confirmed that a pedestrian was hit by a car on Victoria Avenue, at around 12.50pm this afternoon.
Traffic is building, with part of the road closed due to gas works nearby.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.
The age of the pedestrian is yet to be confirmed.
The crash is not deemed as a hit and run, with the vehicle involved remaining at the scene.

A spokesman from Essex Police, said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Victoria Avenue, Southend at around 12.50pm today.
"The pedestrian, a woman, has sustained a head injury and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
"Our enquiries are ongoing.
