Councillor Kay Mitchell said: “Hamlet Court Road is a local high street that has a strong community feel.
“It is a great area to bring people together. Now we can meet more safely, our multi-cultural festival in the heart of Westcliff can enjoy a great deal of diversity and the vibrant art scene from across Southend.
“We want to make this an annual feature on Southend’s calendar.”
Event co-ordinator, Josephine Melville, added: “We are working with local artists and groups such as Gill West and Carissa Baxter, spoken word artists, two choirs, The South African and 7th Day Adventist choirs, steel pan players and Keith Baxter.
“We will have the stunning vocals of Dawnette Fessey and band, and the amazing headliner Matt Linen from X Factor – just a couple of the artists who will be performing on the day.
“We have also been working with local schools. We can’t wait to see the really interesting pieces of work from our young people which will adorn Hamlet Court Road”.
Councillor Cheryl Nevin said: “We hope this will be an opportunity for families to celebrate, after a really difficult year for many.
“The community have come together to plant flowers in the planters that businesses have adopted and committee members have been repainting noticeboards in preparation. Local business Eliza Boutique will be holding a fashion show on the day.
“There are creative activities for children to get involved in, such as our street art project led by Scotty B in Anerley Road. A Better Start Southend will be holding arts and activity zones in Havens for children.
“There there will be a maypole to dance around outside Savers. Bar N Bus and Southend Ghost Busters will be attending, with further artists to announced.”
