A man has admitted carrying a knife during the incident in which Luke Bellfield died in February.

The 18-year-old sadly died of injuries he sustained near to the Peterboat pub, High Street, Old Leigh on February 26.

Alfie Pollard, 18, who is a serving prisoner, appeared in Southend Magistrates’ Court yesterday and admitted possession of a bladed article.

He also admitted possession of a Class B drug – cannabis.

Pollard will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court from the week commencing October 18.

Last month Luke’s mum, Rowena, from Leigh, remembered her son in an interview with the Echo. 

She said: “He’s left a massive hole in our lives. We’ve been really struggling.

“We miss him every day. It broke our hearts.

“He was really keen on his boxing and staying fit.

“It was lovely to see everyone saying nice things about him and paying tribute to him.”

A shrine for Luke was set up in Old Leigh, which featured notes and tributes from friends and family.
