A man has been found guilty in connection with the death of a father after an attack outside a bar.
Dennie Griffiths, 28, of Hermitage Drive, Laindon, was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury at Basildon Crown Court this afternoon.
Griffiths was charged after the death of Matthew Bion who died of a fatal brain injury on August 27, 2019, following the incident outside Reids bar, in Billericay on August 18.
Griffith's girlfriend Jade Chambers, also of Hermitage Drive, Laindon, has been found guilty of assisted Griffiths by telling him to hide over text messages in the aftermath of the incident.
The jury return their verdict this afternoon.
The trial previously heard how Mr Bion was knocked out with one punch from Griffiths.
An initial punch missed, before a second saw the victim “fall like a skittle” - the jury was told.
The court heard how Chambers denied knowing Griffiths to police at the scene but sent him messages to help him avoid being arrested.
After arrest, Griffiths told police he acted in self-defence as he feared he was going to be “attacked and pushed a man to get away”.
