RAIL passengers are advised to check their journey before they travel this weekend due to engineering works.

Network Rail is continuing a long-term project which will see it carry out improvement works on the c2c lines throughout the next nine weekends.

Engineers are upgrading the overhead cables on the Fenchurch Street to Shoebury line and the Tilbury loop which diverges from the main line between Barking and Pitsea.

Network Rail says this will help reduce future delays and improve reliability on the like.

It means the following services will be disrupted this weekend:

Basildon line

All services were start or terminate at Laindon/ Fenchurch Street on both Saturday and Sunday. Anyone wanting to travel beyond Laindon towards Shoebury will need to take a rail replacement bus.

Ockendon line

All services will start or terminate at Grays on both days. Anyone wanting to travel beyond Grays towards Pitsea will need to take a rail replacement bus.

There is also a revised timetable for services on the Rainham line.

Network Rail says it plans to complete the more complex parts of the project over the Christmas period.

The project is expected to continue throughout next year and finish in 2023.

Bosses say they will aim to minimise disruption where possible to passengers and carry out works overnight or during off-peak times such as weekends.
