A MAN has been arrested after Sir David Amess MP was stabbed to death this afternoon.
Essex Police has confirmed a man was arrested following the major incident at around midday.
Sir David, MP for Southend West, who was holding a surgery in the Belfairs Methodist Church today, was stabbed mulitple times inside the church, the Echo understands. His death has now been confirmed.

A full statement from Essex Police, reads: "A man's been arrested following an incident in Leigh.
"We were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm.
"A man was arrested shortly after and we're not looking for anyone else.
"We'll bring you more info when we have it."
