SIR David Amess was stabbed multiple times during a constituency surgery – an inquest has heard.
The inquest into the death of the MP was held this morning at Essex County Council’s chamber.
Opening the inquest coroners officer Paul Donaghy said: “On October 15, Sir David Amess was holding a surgery at Belfairs Methodist Church. During one of the meetings he suffered multiple stab wounds.
"Sadly despite attempted medical interventions at the scene his death was confirmed at 1.13pm. A forensic post mortem was held on October 16 at Southend Hospital by doctor Matthew Cieka, a home office pathologist, and a cause of death of multiple stab wounds to the chest was given.
"A investigation was launched by the metropolitan police counter terrorism unit. The individual in question has been charged with amongst other things murder and he has appeared before the Old Bailey.”
Coroner Lincoln Brookes said the hearing was adjourned and he will check in around April 25 for a review.
James Duddridge MP for Southend East and Rochford attended the hearing.
