A POLICE probe has been launched after a "disturbance" in Westcliff yesterday afternoon.
A cordon was set up in an alleyway between Bridgwater Drive and Mendip Crescent, and remains in place this afternoon.
Officers remain on guard at the cordon, with the incident believed to be have taken place inside a bungalow.
Essex Police confirmed that no injuries were reported, and no suspects were found.
It's unclear if a weapon was used.
However residents report hearing a loud gunshot at the time.
Armed police were spotted patrolling the area yesterday.
The force insisted officers are at a "very early stage" of the investigation.

A spokesman from Essex Police, said: "We are investigating after receiving reports of a disturbance in Westcliff.
"We were contacted at 3.35pm yesterday, Tuesday 26 October, and attended an alleyway linking Bridgwater Drive and Mendip Crescent.
"We do not believe anyone was injured.
"Our officers completed a thorough search of the location and of the surrounding area.
"No suspects were found and our inquiries are ongoing.
