Police have issued a warning amid reports a conman has been knocking on residents’ doors in an attempt to sell ‘sub-standard’ items.
It comes as officers have been contacted about an alleged salesman in Thundersley who claims to be ex-military.
In a plea issued on Facebook, police urged residents not to allow the man or any other supposed salesmen into their homes.
They said: “We have recently been made aware of a male conducting door to door sales in the Thundersley area, claiming to be an ex-serviceman.
“They have produced an armed forces veterans ID card and will try to sell you sub-standard overpriced household items.

“These are often referred to as 'Nottingham knockers'.
"We urge caution when speaking to anyone trying to sell you items at your door.
“Never allow them into your property to use the toilet or have a glass of water.”
Police say some 'Nottingham knockers' have been linked to organised crime and there can be an increase in burglaries when they have been reported in an area.
Anyone selling goods on doorsteps must have a licence for the area they are working in.
Police can be contacted on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
