A MAN has been fined after using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment or alarm and distress towards a transgender woman.
Martin Whitebread, 58, of Ilfracombe Road, Southend appeared in Southend Magistrates Court on October 25 charged with using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment or alarm and distress.
He acted with intention to cause a woman harassment, alarm or distress,used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, thereby causing that person or another harassment, alarm or distress.
He admitted the crime and the court found this offence was aggravated due to hostility towards persons who are transgender.
A community order was made and he was ordered to complete rehabilitation activity requirement days up to a maximum of 40 days and he was ordered to pay compensation of £50.
