A CHRISTMAS tree has been installed in Basildon town centre ahead of an event that will officially launch the festive season.
Basildon Council have posted a video of the tree on Twitter to give shoppers a sneak peak of what to expect when they next visit the town centre.
The tree has been installed outside the Eastgate Shopping Centre and near to where the new Empire cinema is.
It features 3,000 lights and is 25ft tall.
There’s nothing like a Christmas tree to get you in the mood for the festive season… and the 25ft tree with 3000 lights in the town centre does just that!🎅🎄

There will be no official switch on of the Christmas lights in the town centre this year due to Covid-19 and ‘budget decisions’, bosses have said.
But the popular Basildon at Christmas event will be returning this Saturday to officially launch the Christmas season.
There will be performances on a stage in St Martin’s Square including a Robbie Williams tribute act. The cast of this year’s Towngate Theatre Panto, Beauty and the Beast will also be making an appearance.
There will also be festive walkabout entertainment in the Eastgate Centre including the Snowball Sprites, Ice Queen and the Elf, and a pair of stilt-walking Christmas Trees.
A Santa’s Grotto will also be running, while the event will round off with a fireworks display in St Martin’s Square at 6pm.
The event gets underway from 10am.
