DRIVERS and who park dangerously or illegally will be fined, as part of a trial scheme to protect children walking to and from school.
Two CCTV camera are being installed outside Richmond Avenue Primary and Nursery School, Shoebury, with the aim of to improving safety and protecting children. The cameras will be monitored during school hours, and owners of the offending vehicles will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) through the post.
Headteacher Kate Moneypenny said: “I’d like to thank the council in their efforts to help improve road safety around the school, I am really pleased that we have been able to work with the council and for their support in helping keep the children and families safe.”
Council bosses say that their goal is to protect children as they enter and leave the school, as illegally-parked cars can reduce the vision of students looking to cross the road.

It follows Southend Council’s Schools Street scheme, which is aimed at making roads around schools safer by closing roads that are near to the schools at drop-off and pick-up times, other than to residents and school staff.
Councillor Ron Woodley, cabinet member for transport, asset management and inward investment, added: “Keeping children safe is our utmost priority, and our pioneering School Streets campaign has proven to be incredibly popular with schools, pupils, staff and residents. However, not every school is in a location for suitable School Streets, so we are trialling a slightly different approach in the hope it will improve the safety of school children from people parking recklessly.
“I am delighted that Richmond Avenue Primary and Nursery School are on board with the trial, and we will work closely with them over the next few months to ensure the trial project is having the desired effect.
“If successful, we may look to implement the scheme elsewhere, but it is important we review the trial fully below committing to any further decisions.”
