CHILDREN as young as TEN are threatening families after being armed with bricks taken from blocked paving that has been broken up.
The young yobs are also throwing the bricks at homes and running riot on the Somercotes estate and Five Links areas in Laindon, say residents.
Large holes have been appearing on the floor where the bricks are being moved around.
One worried woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “It’s just a pain. The kids play up against my wall with the bricks and the walls are so hollow.
“They are out there in all weathers treating it like a sandpit. The same kids walk around the estate acting hard and threatening people.
“They have stood in front of a friend saying “run me over”.
They have stood in front of my car with sticks crossed saying “we won’t let you out” and they are around ten years old.
“They are picking up the bricks throwing them at the buildings, along with any rubbish, like fridges or boxes.
“This has got so much worse in the last year and something needs to be done about it.”
Jeff Henry, Tory councillor for Laindon Park, said there are many issues with the estate.
He said: “One big issue is ownership of different parts of the estate with a number of organisations.
“Identifying the owners is part of the issues and I’ve been raising these things for four years now.
“The behaviour is unacceptable and I will raise it with the council and see what we can do about it.
“I live nearby and have not heard anything about these issues but I am familiar with the paving issues. We also need to be looking at the range of issues and understand what it’s like for people to live there.”
He wants to take officers around the estate to identify all the issues and work that needs to be done.
He said it’s a unique place to live due to the design.
An Essex Highways spokesperson said: “Antisocial behaviour should be reported to the community policing team.
Work has been identified that needs to take place to reset some paving slabs on Elizabeth Way in Laindon. This job is currently being scheduled.”
