A FLOOD alert has been issued in Southend for a second successive day.

The warning is in place between 1.15pm and 3.15pm today, with experts warning some roads and footpaths are at risk of minor flooding during these times.

Areas largely at risk are along the coast, and include:

  • Southend seafront
  • Leigh seafront (including High Street and golf range)
  • Two Tree Island
  • Roads around Southchurch
  • Park Roads around Thorpe Hall Golf Club
  • Shoebury Common
  • Cambridge Town

Other areas in Shoebury, Chalkwell and Thorpe Bay may also see some flooding.

It is being caused by higher sea levels than usual, with the water along the Southend coast reaching maximum height around 2.15pm.

Southend Coastguard is among the agencies to share the warning, and is urging residents to be cautious when traveling in coastal areas this afternoon.

A spokesman said: “Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.”

The Environment Agency is said to be monitoring the situation but experts are hopeful the flood warning will not need to be upgraded.

It currently stands at ‘be prepared’.
