A £2million crazy golf course and escape room will open in a former Argos store, creating 25 new jobs for residents.

Hackers will open in the large empty unit in the centre of Billericay High Street, with bosses insisting it will be a “spectacular” venue.

The venue will boast a 16 hole crazy golf course, set to open at the end of this month, as well as five escape rooms which will open shortly after.

The project is being formed by businessmen Allan Pierce, Stephen Cole, Mark Stevens and John Mass.

Mr Pierce said: “I think it’s the biggest thing I have ever known in the town and is a major project.

“We allowed some people in briefly around Christmas and everyone was so impressed.

Echo:

“It’s costing us more than £2million and is a huge site that we are using in the high street.

“It’s like nothing else and there’s so many features for the golf including a temple, trees, lighting and sound affects.

“It’s spectacular and theatrical. We have seating for 70 downstairs in the bar area and we will have a real relaxing Billericay feel for the venue.

“Upstairs is the escape room adventure with another bar for 40 people too.”

Mr Pierce and Mr Cole work at similar venues in Chelmsford, Margate and Barleylands in Billericay.

Mr Pierce, who ran a wholesale firm and lives in the town, says they know about crazy and adventure golf and are working with top escape room experts.

He added: “We’ve had it theatrical designed and it’s superb. One of the escape rooms is a submarine style one.

“We will be staging the opening of it all and expect to have the golf open by the end of the month.

“We want to make sure it’s all spot on and do not want to rush it at all. I think it will be a soft launch.”

The venue will be offering street food such as pizza, burgers and hotdogs.

It would be the latest crazy golf course in the borough, after the opening of Mr Mulligans at Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park
