VANDALS are “hellbent on bringing Canvey down” after covering a section of the sea wall with graffiti.
A section of the wall where residents often go for walks, has been covered in sprayed tags and signs this week.
Residents of Canvey have vented their disgust and upset that someone could do this to such an iconic piece of the island.

Gaynor Williams, 59, who lives on Canvey, wonders why people do this sort of thing.
She said: “I am sad and annoyed this has happened when residents enjoy the seafront, with the majority of people all trying to keep it looking nice.
“It makes you wonder why people do this sort of thing and what satisfaction they actually get out of this.
“I hope it can be cleaned up as it is a place that is important to a lot of residents.”
The graffiti has been sprayed along the seafront on Canvey not far from the Lobster Smack pub and restaurant.
It is an area where residents often walk as it overlooks the estuary.
Another Canvey resident, who wished to remain anonymous, added he will take matters into his own hands in getting rid of it if the council don’t do it.
He said: “My family walk our dog down at the wall daily as it is such a quiet and lovely walk overlooking the estuary.
“We regularly litter pick down there too to make the area look nicer as the sea can sometimes wash up rubbish.
“I am all for art and sometime graffiti if it is tasteful, but this is disgusting and an eyesore.
“It has clearly been done by a group of kids, who don’t really care about the area they live in.
“I love living here on Canvey, but some people seem hellbent on bringing the area down.
“I have reported it to the council and if they fail to do anything about it, I will look to paint it myself in the coming months.”
The council have been contacted for a comment but are yet to respond.
