New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to 11 of Southend’s establishments this month.
We have taken a look at the latest ratings to see how restaurants, takeaways and other establishments which sell food have fared.
What do the numbers mean?
0 - urgent improvement necessary
1 - major improvements necessary
2 - improvements necessary
3 - business generally satisfactory
4 - business good on assessment
5 - business seen as very good
Each restaurant is also judged on three categories ‘food hygiene and safety’, ‘structural compliance’ and ‘confidence in management’.
Each section is awarded a mark from ‘very good’ to ‘very bad’ and for ‘confidence in management’ from ‘high’ to ‘no confidence’.
Restaurants, cafes and canteens
The following ratings have been given to seven restaurants, cafes or canteens:
• Rated 5: Golden Mayfair Chinese Restaurant at 3 West Road, Westcliff; rated on February 25
• Rated 5: Pizza Pizza at 83 Broadway, Leigh; rated on February 17
• Rated 5: Corner House at 39 Southchurch Road, Southend; rated on February 15
• Rated 5: Southchurch Park Cafe at Cafe, Southchurch Park, Shaftesbury Avenue, Southend; rated on February 15
• Rated 5: The Rumbling Tum at 32 Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff; rated on February 2
• Rated 3: Taste at Shoeburyness Youth Centre, Delaware Road, Shoebury; rated on October 8
• Rated 1: Corner Club at 44 Broadway, Leigh; rated on October 28
Pubs, bars and nightclubs
And one rating has been handed to a pub, bar or nightclub:
• Rated 5: The Sarah Moore Pub at The Sarah Moore Public House, 57 - 59 Elm Road, Leigh; rated on February 14
Takeaways
Plus three ratings for takeaways:
• Rated 5: Italian Pizza House at Sizzling Pizza, 105 Southchurch Road, Southend; rated on February 9
• Rated 4: Hong Kong Kitchen at 483 Southchurch Road, Southend; rated on January 27
• Rated 2: China Village at 3 Earls Hall Parade, Southend; rated on January 27
