ECHO readers have revealed their preferred choice for the new logo of Southend.

The city’s council revealed the four options being considered for its new logo.

It will be asking the public to give its views later this month before revealing its favoured choice.

The Echo asked its readers to vote on their preferred option when it hosted an online poll via the website earlier this week.

Nearly 1,500 people took part in the poll, with The S design coming out on top.

Echo:

Here are the results of the vote:

  • The S – 519 votes (35 per cent)
  • The Coat of Arms – 465 (32 per cent)
  • The Shell – 365 (25 per cent)
  • The Windmill – 123 (eight per cent)

A separate vote held on Facebook saw a very different result however, with 359 people out of 581 voting in favour of the shell design.

The windmill came second and the S third.

Southend’s cabinet will meet this coming week to discuss the options after which there will be a two-week consultation of residents and businesses.

Ian Gilbert, leader of the council, said: “The current branding we’ve had getting on for 15 to 20 years now so it’s due a refresh.

“I want to get this done relatively quickly because I think we are now a city and it’s not a good look for the council if we are still using out of date branding.

“I’m very keen to try and get them in place by the summer season so while we’re holding events we’re not still using the outdated borough council branding.”

Company Formara, which already works with the council on its designs, was chosen to create the shortlisted designs at cost of just over £4,000.

Once chosen, the new logo will appear on the council’s website, social media, letterheads, documents, uniforms, building signage and vehicles.
