SHOPPER are being urged to park is busy areas after a motorist was targeted by thieves in a supermarket car park.
An investigation is underway into the incident, which happened on Tuesday afternoon in Benfleet.
The victim was approached by two men when they were near to their car, which was parked outside Sainsbury’s in Stadium Way.
One of the men claimed there had been damage done to the victim’s vehicle and distracted them by claiming to show them where it was.
A second man used the distraction to then grab the victim’s purse from inside the vehicle.
No damage was done to the car but officers are urging shoppers to be vigilant.

A spokesman said: “Unfortunately this is a fairly common tactic used by criminals and we are working with the store to raise awareness with their customers.
“We encourage drivers, particularly women, to park closer to the store entrance where it is generally busier, which will discourage thieves.
“Ensure that you keep your vehicle locked when you are out of it at all times, even if you stood next to the vehicle.
“If you are approached, seek assistance from the store and call us.”
