FAST food restaurant KFC has been closed on the A127 for a month-long refurbishment.
There was some confusion last week when the franchise closed without warning.
But KFC have said the restaurant is only closed until the end of next month due to refurbishment works.
A KFC spokesman said: “Fear not. We’re busy giving our KFC restaurant on Progress Road a little TLC – but we’ll be back at the fryers in late April.
“For those who can’t wait for their fried chicken fix, our restaurant in Rochford is still open for dine-in, delivery and drive-thru.”
Many welcomed the decision by KFC with some considering the revamp long overdue. Paul Collins, a councillor representing the Eastwood park ward where the KFC is based, said the refurbishment was needed for the store.
He said: “I’m pleased that they’re refurbishing it and making a positive change to it. The timing of them closing at this point is appropriate given South Essex College nearby is also closing for two weeks at about the same time.
“I look forward to it opening at the end of the month. They send out volunteers to keep Oakwood Park clear of rubbish which is very good of the staff so I know they’re very conscious of their local environment.”
He added: “They obviously want good business so its welcome that they are investing in their area. At this time any investment from big organisations is welcome.
Mr Collins’ words were echoed by others in the local community including Chairman of Leigh Town Council, Douglas Cracknell.
While not aware of the closure he was delighted to see more investment in the local area which would hopefully bring a positive knock-on effect to other businesses in the area.
He added: “It’s not something that’s I’ve ever used or considered using. However, the fact that any company wants to invest in Leigh, progress their business and upgrade it to make it attractive for local residents can only be a positive thing.”
