Police are stepping up patrols on Canvey amid reports of people catching and killing fish.
The rural engagement team were on the island yesterday along with officials from the Environment Agency to investigate the issue.
Photos issued by the team showed patrols were being carried out around Canvey Island lake.
It has been reported people having been killing fish once caught, and then taking them home.
The law requires people to have a licence to go fishing, but anything caught must be returned alive to the water where it was caught.
Anyone with information about the issue is asked to contact police on 101.
