ALDI has unveiled plans to set-up a new store in south Essex.
The German supermarket giant has submitted plans to refurbish the existing Co-op in Queens Park Avenue, Billericay, and create its first site in the town.
A planning application outlining the proposed changes states the new shop would create 50 jobs.
Co-op is said to be leaving the site when its lease expires and Aldi says it aims for a swift transition.
The planning statement adds: “Co op lease is due expire, with the intention being for Aldi to convert and modernise the existing foodstore to facilitate their swift occupation of the site to ensure continuity of foodstore provision.
“The Co op store currently provides the main anchor facility for the Pantiles Queens Park local centre, with Aldi’s intention to introduce their brand and provide an enhanced food offer for the local community."

Discussions have already been held with planning officers at Basildon Council, which will have the final say on the scheme.
Among the changes put forward for the site are a new entrance and extension of car park by 21 spaces to create room for 147 vehicles.
Alterations will also be made to the service area and a 'new plant enclosure' set up outside the back of the shop.
