Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a school boy who died after a "medical emergency."

Flowers and messages have been laid at Shoebury High School after the Year Seven boy died yesterday.

Emergency services were called yesterday afternoon to concerns for the welfare of the boy.

The school, Essex Police and councillors confirmed he had died after being taken to Southend Hospital.

Messages at the school say fly high and rest easy with bouquets of flowers on the school sign.

Last night Essex Police issued assurances that no weapons were involved. The force also said officers are treating his death as unexplained.

Echo:

District Commander Ian Hughes said: “We are aware of comments on social media, and we want to reassure the community and parents of pupils at the school, no knife was involved during this tragic incident.

“I would like to offer my condolences to the boy’s family and we are doing everything we can to support them through this tragic and difficult time.

“We will continue to investigate the circumstances into the boy’s death and will work with the school."

Yesterday an Essex Police spokesman said: "Officers attended Shoebury High School and met with paramedics who were dealing with a medical emergency.

"Despite their best efforts, and those of the school staff, we are able to confirm a Year 7 boy, sadly, has now died."
