Police are appealing for information after officers were called to an assault on a  road.

An investigation into the incident has begun after officers were called to Belgrave Road, Eastwood, just before 8pm on Sunday night with enquiries currently ongoing.

A spokesman for Essex Police says they are looking for anyone who may have seen anything, or has dash cam footage from their vehicle, to come forward as soon as possible.

Images from the scene last night show a police officer standing in the middle of the road blocking traffic from entering the area where the incident took place.

A witness at the scene, who wanted to stay anonymous, says they also saw police tape across two properties which was guarded by one further officer.

One person, a grandmother-of-three said: "I heard someone was hurt and I saw the blue flashing lights and the police.

"It is unusual to see anything like this here and I don't think we've had anything like this here before. I hope the person is doing ok and recovers."

She added: "I saw some posts on Facebook about lots of people and someone being hurt and my neighbours have been talking about it too."

Another, a father-of-two, aged 35, said: "I think it's very shocking to have this happen here as it's a nice area to be. I had heard a person was hurt in the incident and I hope they make a speedy and full recovery soon.

"It's not nice to have this sort of thing going on near where you live. I people will be shocked to hear of this happening here."
