The decision making process of ordering a takeaway can often cause tension. How do you come to an agreement when you all want different cuisines?

But can your preferred takeaway choice be related to where you live?

Just Eat has conducted analysis to find out if this is the case, revealing the nation's favourite takeaways based on area and breaking down millions of reviews for restaurants on its website.

This includes Essex which was, broken down into several major districts.

What is Essex's favourite takeaway?

Looking into British, Asian, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese and fast food chains, Essex’s favourite takeaway was quite a mixed bag overall.

On the broad Just Eat map, Eastern England as whole had the Japanese cuisine as its favourite, but when you broke Essex down that wasn't necessarily as clear-cut.

For example, the Southend-on-Sea district had fast food as its favourite (scoring 92.28 out of 100), with Japanese still scoring quite highly at 70.72.

The rest of the districts are listed below:

  • Basildon district - Chinese (56.45)
  • Braintree district - Japanese (81.15)
  • Brentwood district - British (44.1)
  • Castle Point district - Indian (56.45)
  • Chelmsford district - Chinese (83.22)
  • Colchester district - Mexican (68.78)
  • Rochford district - Fast food (34.02)
  • Maldon district - Fast food (62.85)
  • Tendring district - Indian (56.42)
  • Thurrock district - Japanese (69.85)
  • Uttlesford district - Italian (69.17)

Overall, fast food just about wins out, with Chinese, Indian and Japanese not far behind.
