Ikea have squashed online rumours from residents they are setting up a new store in Basildon.
Social media was swirling with speculation the Swedish furniture store would be setting up in the town in recent weeks following the official announcement Dunelm would be opening up at the Mayflower retail park.
Sadly for fans of flat pack furniture it looks like there are no imminent plans to do so with a spokesman for Ikea stating the company was “not considering” Basildon as a potential location for a new branch.
It means residents wanting their furniture fix will still continue to travel to their nearest store currently at Lakeside.

The spokesman said: “We’re in a fast changing retail environment and we want to make sure we continue to be affordable and convenient.
"Our ambitious growth plans mean we are focusing on all parts of creating a great customer experience, whenever and wherever people need us.
“This includes investing in our online offer and customer services, rebuilding and adapting existing IKEA stores, and evaluating different locations as part of a new city centre approach."
They added: “As such, we are reviewing our growth strategy on an ongoing basis. We are not considering Basildon as a potential location for IKEA at this current time.”
