A WOMAN was attacked and a huge brawl broke out outside a pub during a night of chaos in Southend.
Essex police received reports that a woman was assaulted in Clifftown Road, Southend, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It comes as video footage went viral on social medias of a dozen men involved in a fight outside the Last Post, on Clifftown Road.
Social media users claim the brawl happened around the same time as the assault on a woman, which is being investigated by police.
Essex Police has stated it had no reports of the large brawl.
However, the video showed a man being attacked by various others, before more pub-goers became involved and numerous punches were thrown.
Conservative councillor, David Garston, admitted incidents like this can be terrifying for residents.
He said: “This is just not what we want anywhere in our city. I think the problem is alcohol and drugs and we do have a problem with it in the city.
“Police cannot be everywhere and it a shame they act under the influence of drink and drugs and we see these incident happen.
“The other problem is that this is in a residential area so it is absolutely frightening for people living there to have this situation.”
He said it’s awful and he hopes police get together the witnesses needed and the courts back them with appropriate punishments.
Mr Garston also said these incidents put people off walking from the nearby Southend Central train station.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to the assault on the woman.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of an assault on a woman in Clifftown Road, Southend at around 12.25am on 30 April.
