A man's body was found in a country lane, sparking a police investigation.
Police officers were called to the incident in Stock Road, Stock yesterday morning by the ambulance service.
Essex Police says the investigation is in the early stages and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesman for the force said: "We have launched an investigation following the death of a man in Stock.

Our officers were called to Stock Road by our colleagues from the ambulance service at 10.47am yesterday. Sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Our investigation is in the very early stages and ongoing, and we are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
