A NEW takeaway is set to open in Southend High Street, priding itself on being the “UK’s newest and most innovative chicken wings chain”.
Dynamite Wings is the latest eatery to announce plans to open in Southend, with bosses eyeing up a prime spot at the junction of the High Street and Clifftown Road.
Initial plans for new signage have been submitted to Southend Council.
It follows the announcement that both Wagamama and Taco Bell are opening new restaurants in the city centre.
Senior councillors have welcomed the added investment and say it will bring something new to the city centre.
Carole Mulroney, portfolio holder planning said: “It’s good to see something a big different planning to open in the high street.
“We welcome any firm that wants to invest in the city centre especially one that’s upmarket. It will add more kudos to the town centre.
“It sounds like it could be a good addition to the high street and especially this part of it which does need it there.
“It is a prominent unit so it will be good to have a business like this this set up in there.”
The company describes itself as “the UK’s newest and most innovative chicken wing chain” and its menu includes chicken wings, burgers, cakes, and doughnuts.
Wenzel’s Bakery is also opening in a unit between the River Island store and the Green House grocery on Southend High Street.
Tony Cox, leader of the Southend Conservatives, said: “It is pleasing to see and I think it’s a good step in the right direction for the high street too.
“I think we need a good mixture of eateries and this will help with that competition for businesses. I think we need work to make the high street a nicer place to be. We haven’t got this sort of upmarket food outlet in the high street and hopefully it’s in a good price range for customers too.
“I hope lots of people use it and it is successful here in the high street.”
