AIRPORT bosses appear to have joined calls for easyJet to offer a new destination from Southend.
The budget airline is providing regular flights to Faro, Palma and Malaga after making its return to Southend Airport earlier this month.
easyJet’s comeback has been warmly welcomed by holidaymakers and business bosses in the city, but there are calls for further destinations to be added.
Echo readers highlighted Alicante in Spain as a popular choice for a new route, and Southend Airport has also thrown its backing behind the idea in a post on Facebook.
It said: “We have loved reading all your comments to bring back some well-loved routes with easyJet.... Alicante is on all of our bucket lists and we would love to see this route launch.
“You will hear of new destinations here first.”

easyJet has remained coy about its future plans for its partnership with Southend Airport.
It will be offering flights to the current three destinations until October.
Southend Airport has previously said it wants to add more short-haul flights and routes to its current offerings following the ending of all Covid travel restrictions.
An airport spokesman told the Echo last month: “We want to develop a sustainable airport that works for our community.
“We are focused on discussions with short-haul airline operators.
“We aim to get back to pre-pandemic levels in the coming years."
