BARCLAYS is set to close its Billericay branch as it announced plans to close more sites.

The banking giant will see its Billericay branch close its doors in August later this year.

The decision comes as Barclays see a fall in branch visits in Billericay and across the UK.

Barclays Billericay will close on Wednesday, August 24, and will be the third bank to close in Billericay High Street this year.

The HSBC on Billericay High Street will close in September and NatWest to shut later in the year too.

A spokesman for Barclays said: “The decision to close a branch is never an easy one. However, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking.

“As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.

“This is reflected at Billericay branch there has been a 29 per cent reduction in counter transactions in the two years to March 2020.

“In addition, 86 per cent of our customers at the branch are also using different ways to bank.

“We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required.”
