Part of East Beach in Shoeburyness has been identified as a potential dedicated dog-friendly beach all year round - and residents are being asked to have their say.

Southend City Council is asking residents and visitors for their views on the proposal, which came about after strong support for part of Southend's beaches to remain open to dogs in a previous consultation.

The consultation outlines the exact area and explains how, if approved, the area will have dog bins and due to the facilities available and the large amount of space, should not affect the Blue Flag status of the area.

Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture and tourism, said: “Dog friendly beaches is something that has come up again and again.

“We are a dog loving nation and I can understand why owners want to be able to combine their love of the seaside with walking their dog, all year round, not just in the out of season months.

“The survey is very short, three questions in total, so I would urge people to give their views and help the council make an informed decision.

“There would still be other considerations to make concerning the local habitat and any potential impacts, but we need to know what residents think first, before further work is done.”
